2013 US Open gear check: Rafael Nadal

He’s known as the King of Clay, but he’s been on a bit of a tear this summer on the hard courts so watch out for Rafael Nadal as he makes a bid for another US Open title. Let’s take a look at Rafa’s gear from the 2013 US Open.

His apparel: As usual, Rafa stepped out in Nike apparel designed especially for him. His Premier Rafa Crew is available in two colors, Armory Slate (a bluish grey) and White. There’s a subtle X graphic across the chest and his signature Bull logo on the sleeve. The vent holes on the back offer some extra ventilation as well as style. Gone are the days of the capri-length shorts for Rafa. He now sports 8″ inseam shorts. The Premier Woven Short has laser-cut perforations on the sides to tie it to the top visually, and a no-sew bonded waistband for the ultimate in comfort. For accessories, Rafa is wearing matching Nike wristbands and the Hero Print Bandana in Slate. On his feet are the Air Courtballistec 4.3 shoes. These are the most durable of the Nike line and come with a six-month outsole guarantee.

His equipment: It’s still all about the the Babolat AeroPro Drive for Rafa, and who could blame him? This racquet accentuates his already massive topspin. He strings it up with spin in mind once again and uses Babolat RPM Blast 16.  For his watch, Rafa turns to Richard Mille. Pricey but undeniably cool.

Happy US Open Watching!
