Sneak Peek: adidas Y-3 Collection

Posted on April 17, 2015 in Shoes and Apparel

200251888-008adidas has teamed up with award winning Japanese fashion designer, Yohji Yamamoto, to create Y-3, a bold, original and confident line of apparel and shoes for the tennis world. adidas was excited to introduce Y-3 to tennis and seeing that Paris is one of the most fashion-forward cities in the world, doing so at the 2015 French Open made perfect sense. Each piece helps construct an attitude and sense of power for the player wearing it as you will see when Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Ana Ivanovic debut the line this year at Roland Garros.

“Together with adidas we created something that did not exist before and completely projected the future. My desire was and is to make sportswear elegant and chic. adidas is a very personal inspiration to me…it enriches my creative life.”

– Yohji Yamamoto

So what is Y-3? It is an ongoing collaboration between Yamamoto and adidas where high fashion meets sport. The “Y” stands for the brilliant spirit and designs of Yohji Yamamoto while the “3” represents the signature 3 stripes of adidas and the “-” signifies a bond between the two.

RGF2The flower print has been hand painted in Japan and uses designs and color to bring texture to each piece. Picking the ultra-quick and comfortable adizero Feathers and adizero Tempaias for the Y-3 collection, these shoes are not only eye-catching and unique but are also some of the highest performing speed shoes on the market (and might be my favorite part of the collection!). With the summer flower print peeking through, the cage of this shoe features a design of Ys as a direct call out to Yamamoto’s design. Apparel wise, this collection features the bold flower print and subtle, yet confidently bold black pieces meant to make a statement on the court.

RGF1This is one of the most exciting collections I’ve seen come to the tennis scene in a long time. I am loving the black paired with the beautifully, bright flower print. Everything just works and it’s hard not to be drawn to the pieces! Plus, the concept behind Y-3 is an easy one to get behind — individualistic pieces that create a sense of strength and confidence on the court. Be sure to grab some pieces from this collection and check out Y-3 when it is available at Tennis Warehouse on May 1st!

Play with heart,
