Love has a special meaning for tennis players. We love our game, and all the puns (intended or not!) that come with being a tennis player and fan. Valentine’s Day is upon us so let’s celebrate our love of all things tennis with a few fun tees. Continue reading →
The season of go-go-go and then go some more is upon us. Thanksgiving is just the start of big meals, holiday parties, crowds, wrapping paper, high heels, cocktail gatherings, kids’ holiday recitals, office parties, cookie exchanges …. ‘Tis the season for chaos, so we’re all going to need something to help us forge ahead. My solution: comfy sweats.
If the weather out there is frightful, it’s time to head indoors for some tennis! And even in milder climates, it’s time to pull on some outerwear — or at least start thinking about it. There are so many options to create a variety of styles, so you can mix things up day to day or keep your look streamlined. Below are just a few looks that are perfect for the season.
Rich colors have a way of seeming cozy and warm. Nike got it just right with raspberry red and deep purple. The colors look great together. Above, the Pure SS Top is paired with the Slam Skirt. The Pure Top is a flattering top that offers full coverage and a great option for cooler days. Throw on the Nike Knit Sweater for added warmth for a classic finish. The sweater looks sharp on court but just as smart with a pair of jeans. Accessorize as you see fit, but we’ve chosen the Featherlight Visor and a Maggie Mather tote in a neutral color.
Any time of year is suitable for some sparkle, but it’s especially fashionable come the holidays. Instead of reserving the shimmer for holiday office parties and cocktail soirees, let your inner diva sing and shine on the court, too.
Let’s start from the ground up with a look at a few of your options. For shoes with some sheen, I recommend either the Prince T22 in Silver/Berry or the Asics Gel Challenger 9 in Silver/Lime. The T22 is an all-around great shoe that offers comfort, support and durability. The Asics shoe is really comfortable and is lighter feeling on court, but still offers good support. For lighter weight and speedier feel, go with the Asics. Though heavier feeling, the T22 is going to offer better durability, plus a six-month outsole guarantee.
It seems everywhere I look these days I see someone wearing a peplum top. I love the look and find it flattering because it accentuates the thinnest part of your waist. Leave it to Maria Sharapova and Nike to take this fashion trend and bring it to the tennis court. The Nike Premier Maria Tank is a mix of Dri-Fit knit on top and a woven taffeta on bottom for enough stretch for tennis and plenty of lightweight comfort. To keep it sporty, there’s a racerback, which also features a stylish keyhole cutout.
With Sharapova out with an injury, I’m not sure if we’ll get to see this look on court. Eugenie Bouchard sported Sharapova’s dress at the US Open (and was still wearing it at her last tournament), so she might be one to watch. Have you seen the look on your local courts?
Today during my lunchtime hit, I took the game outdoors. Today looked like fall had arrived with cooler temperatures and softer light. The official start of fall is Sunday so we’re right on schedule. I love this time of year, and fall fashions are among my favorites. I love the rich, deep colors. One of the fringe benefits of tennis is the fashion. We get to play the game we love, plus we get to play around with fashion, too. As if I needed an excuse.
The fall EleVen by Venus Williams collection brings an extra element of fashion to athletic wear. Venus is right on trend with her floral print — the high fashion runways showed some for the season. Just check out Dolce Gabbana’s fall-winter collection. You’ll find a variety of florals, and plenty of them go back to black just like the EleVen line.
Venus wore my favorite piece of the collection — the Rose Mesh Dress — at this year’s US Open. It’s just the perfect dose of pretty and sweet. I also love the depth of color in the pink in the group for fall, and it mixes well with both solid black and the floral print. If an all-over floral print just isn’t your cup of tea, you can still get the look by pairing one floral piece with a solid piece. It’s also worth noting that the Flutter Skort comes in two lengths (12″ and 14″) so you can further customize your look.
I’m what I’d call “methodical” when it comes to putting together outfits. I have to start somewhere, whether it’s a fun top, bold shoes or even an outstanding accessory. This time, my statement piece is the Nike Premier Maria Skort in Distance Blue with Green Glow accents.
I love to get the adrenaline pumping with some tennis. A good tennis session is always a great way to feel refreshed, whether I’m greeting a new day with a morning hit or amping up the energy level after a long week.
Pure Lime has a new collection — appropriately named the Summer Citrus Group. You can’t help but feel refreshed when you see the bright citrus-inspired colors. The super intense hues of lime and orange are the perfect way to re-energize. Cute stripes and pleats on the skort keep the look feminine as do the fashion-forward smocking details on the jacket and striped tank top.
Check out our outfit builder for this group to, please pardon the pun, put your twist on the Summer Citrus collection.
Half the fun of playing tennis is figuring out what to wear. Thankfully for all us tennis playing women there are plenty of options out there. Even within one collection there are a lot of mix-and-match opportunities to be had. Check out the Picture Perfect collection from Tail’s Fall 2013 catalog of styles.
Like prints? You can go print on print with separates or choose a full dress in prints. If you prefer, you can mix solids with prints or just use prints as an accent. Have fun with different silhouettes and different styles. Play with the Outfit Builder to put together your favorite combos.
