Nike’s 2014 summer tennis collection plays with print, color

wo_app_fb

Unless you’re a Nike faithful, you might not know that Nike launches new apparel collections at the start of each quarter. Today the summer 2014 collections roll out, and on May 1, we’ll get a few more pieces when we’ll see what Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, and the rest of the Nike athlete crew will wear for this year’s French Open.

Maria Sharapova’s peplum tennis tank brings fashion to the court

Fashion forward tennis

It seems everywhere I look these days I see someone wearing a peplum top. I love the look and find it flattering because it accentuates the thinnest part of your waist. Leave it to Maria Sharapova and Nike to take this fashion trend and bring it to the tennis court. The Nike Premier Maria Tank is a mix of Dri-Fit knit on top and a woven taffeta on bottom for enough stretch for tennis and plenty of lightweight comfort. To keep it sporty, there’s a racerback, which also features a stylish keyhole cutout.

With Sharapova out with an injury, I’m not sure if we’ll get to see this look on court. Eugenie Bouchard sported Sharapova’s dress at the US Open (and was still wearing it at her last tournament), so she might be one to watch. Have you seen the look on your local courts?

All Systems Go!

Scan1

My paperwork has finally been processed at the UK Consulate and my visa has been approved. They tell me my passport along with my visa should be returned to me in the next 48 hours. So, finally I have some good news to report. Unfortunately, due to the delay I’ve missed the first two tournaments in Herzliya, Israel, but thankfully I’ll be able to make the third and final tournament which starts with qualifying on the 14th of June. From Israel, it’s on to England for the month of July and three Futures on grass in Manchester, Felixstowe and Ilkley. Growing up in Zimbabwe we had a grass court at home, so I’m really looking forward to getting back onto the surface I was raised on.

Sugarpova!

Most tennis players I know have a bit of a sweet tooth. So it’s no surprise to me that Maria Sharapova’s new line of candy is a big hit!

Sugarpova

We just got Sugarpova in at Tennis Warehouse! And to say that there was a buzz around the office when this candy hit our desks would be putting it lightly! When our staff saw the fun, sweet and colorful candies we couldn’t wait to tear into the bags of candy and give it a taste!

The Sugarpova candy features four distinctive categories of fruity, sweet fun! Everything from gummies, soft chews, sour gummies and even gum tennis balls are featured in this line of candy. With fun names, shapes and flavors — you will be craving these sweets after a long practice session!

Take a bite out of the sweeter side of tennis and grab some style for your smile with Sugarpova!

Play with heart,

Michelle

Tennis capris

At the BNP Paribas Open yesterday, we experienced some cooler weather for the desert.  With the temperature staying in the 60s with a crisp breeze (sometimes more hurricane-like), spectators and players a like were a little chilly.  So how did the (female) player cope?  By wearing capris!

Beginner’s guide to the BNP Paribas Open

Before you continue reading, answer these questions. Do you like tennis? Do you like to have fun? Do you like nice, warm weather? If you answered yes to all the above, then you should love the BNP Paribas Open! The unofficial 5th grand slam. Located in Indian Wells, CA, the BNP Paribas features the world’s best from the ATP and WTA (minus the Williams sisters) and now with a billionaire owner, Larry Ellison, it is only going to get better. See site expansion plans for 2014.

Some quick facts about this tournament:

- The most attended tennis event outside the 4 grand slams.
- Located about 125 miles east of Los Angeles
- Has Hawk Eye replay system technology on every match court. Not even the Grand Slams have that.

Mats Merkel: From the Australian Open 2013, Day 9

Another great day of tennis today!

First, Na Li beat Agniezka Radwanska in a high level match. A lot of long rallies with the better end for Na Li with a score of 7/5 6/3. The former coach of Justine Henin seems to really have a positive impact on her! Li’s husband has been doing a lot of roadwork in the past years especially since Na’s former coach Thomas Hogsted switched to work with Maria Sharapova. Carlos Rodriguez, Na Li’s current coach, has been with her since shortly before the US Open 2012. You can really see that he has certain things he wants his players to do during a match. Na Li is definitely playing more offensive meaning she is going to the net or at least playing a couple of swing volleys after the opponent has been pushed into the corner.

TENNIS AUSTRALIAN OPEN
Another 5 set match was played by the two Spanish players, Almagro and Ferrer. They were battling each other out there for hours. Almagro was up two sets to love serving for the match at 5/4 in the third but couldn’t serve it out. Ferrer grinded his way back into the match to win in five sets 4/6 4/6 7/5 7/6 6/2.

2012 Favorites: Accessories

With only a couple of days left in 2012, we move along with our look back at the year’s best gear. Today we focus on accessories. That’s a wide ranging category that could include just about anything from headbands to vibration dampeners. If you missed them, we’ve already covered racquets, shoes, strings and apparel.

Head Sharapova Series Court Bag

Brittany: “I am considering a bag an accessory because it definitely accessorizes my outfit.  The Sharapova Series Court Bag is unique among tennis bags. The bag is very elegant looking with the cream base and gold logo. It features a bunch of features that are just as functional as they are fashionable. My favorite thing is the bag is still sporty looking.” Continue reading
