Memorial Day weekend tournament

Today we began the tournament at my home club at LifeTime Fitness Fridley. It has been really rainy, windy and cool here all week, with possible thunderstorms in the forecast for this weekend, but we were able to get the matches in outside today (luckily we have indoor backup if necessary).

My match today was against a very good junior in our section. He is a 6’3″ lefty that serves well, and is pretty solid at the baseline. After settling into the first set, I was playing fine and took it 6-2, then broke serve to start the second set. At that point, I had a bad game missing some easy shots and serves to lose it back. I was rattled, frustrated and continued to make a lot of errors but we both were holding serve. Despite the struggle, I pulled it together to take the second set and match 6-4. It is never fun playing below where you would like, and against a tougher opponent I know I will have to stay mentally┬ástrong and not let it affect my game. I am confident in my ability to do this, and it was just “one of those days” today!
