Boost has been around for a few years in other adidas performance shoes. Runners as well as basketball, soccer and baseball players have taken a liking to its benefits. First, it provides more energy return than a traditional EVA foam midsole, injecting more energy back up into your foot and making each step and change of direction quicker and more explosive. Second, the cushioning performs much more consistently, both over time and in different weather conditions. The underfoot support will last a lot longer, and no matter whether it’s in the heat of summer or the cold of winter, the cushioning and energy return remains the same. A traditional EVA midsole may get harder in the cold or mushy and less responsive in the heat.
At the start of 2015, adidas released their fastest and most modern feeling Barricade yet with the Barricade 2015. No longer do they weigh a pound and need two weeks to break in. This latest version merges the signature support, stability and durability we’ve come to expect from the Barricade line with a faster, lower to the ground feel and virtually no break-in time required. Furthermore, the release of the Limited Edition Wall Pack Collection has showcased the new look and how well the design takes color.
The Barricade Boost is adidas’ first application of this innovative technology to the game of tennis. Boost energy capsules have been inserted into the heel of the shoe to help protect against harsh landings and inject more energy back up into your foot. This helps fight fatigue and make each step quicker and more explosive.
We playtested the Barricade Boost for 4-6 weeks, and while we thought the Barricade 2015 was a huge improvement over previous versions, Boost takes the comfort and cushioning to new heights.
If you’re a player that places a priority on cushioning, stability and durability, it won’t get much better than this. The Barricade Boost retains the unmatched support and durability that we’ve come to expect from the Barricade line, but comfort and quickness has been taken to a whole new level.

adidas now has a new flagship shoe for their speed-oriented adizero line – the Ubersonic! This new premium offering features a super low to the ground ride that feels lightning quick on court and keeps you completely connected to your movement. Rubber was removed and strategically replaced by mesh in specific areas of the outsole to reduce weight and make the shoe ultra light and fast-feeling. Lastly, extra TPU protection wraps the toe area and medial side on the upper to give added protection for aggressive movers.
It looks fantastic, but how does it perform? The softer Kurim upper of the 8+ offers improved comfort and flexibility over the previous version (the Barricade 8) after a brief break-in period. The signature Barricade midfoot stability claws and Band of Power in the heel lock in the foot for exceptional support. There’s simply no better tennis shoe than the Barricade for stability and durability.
The new adidas Barricade 8+ Shanghai launches Friday, September 12th! Be sure to get your pair from TennisWarehouse.com!
