How to throw the perfect Wimbledon Party!

Wimbledon just happens to be my favorite Grand Slam. Maybe it’s the tradition, or the fact that it’s in the middle of summer, or that as long as I can remember, I’ve just been obsessed with the green grass and strawberries of cream. Long story short, the weather is warm, the tennis is hot and this year, I’m hosting a Wimbledon Party!

Being a tennis player, the best way to get things going is a little tennis of course! Round up your friends, have everyone dress in their Wimbledon whites, maybe even grab some wood racquets and get to the courts — if you are lucky to have grass courts somewhere in your town, reserve a court and get going! A little round robin doubles action is a great way to get things started. Play sets and rotate partners so you have a chance to play with everyone. If you are more into singles, do the same, but play singles sets. After a couple hours of tennis, it’s time to cool off — which usually means some iced tea and/or lemonade to share in the shade post match! Go ahead and relax as you discuss the matches you’ve been watching at Wimbledon (Rafa upset by an Aussie kid?! Serena out?!) and make your picks on who will take the 2014 title!

Next, prepare for some Wimbledon-watching fun at home! Go ahead and get creative here! Again, being a crazy tennis fanatic, I’ve been known to make tennis cupcakes, cookies and then some…so let your imagination run wild and be sure to check Pinterest for cute ideas!

First things first — throw some decorations together. Maybe some white table cloths with hints of purple and green here and there or a table that is dressed up to look like a court. Put some super fun flower decorations together for the tables — grab a vase and throw some tennis balls in and pair it with some purple flowers — these look great and are a fun nod to Wimbledon! Make sure you have the Tennis on in the background and you are good to go!

Next, let’s talk cocktails!

If you have ever been to Wimbledon, then you know what’s coming next. Pimm’s Cup No. 1 — the drink that premiered in 1971 at the All England Club. This is by far one of my favorite summer drinks! The gin based drink is refreshingly delicious and easy to make! You can find Pimm’s No. 1 at most liquor specialty stores. Then feel free to play around with the variations of this cocktail or keep it simple by taking 1 part Pimm’s No. 1 Cup + 1 cup lemonade + 1 cup seltzer or lemon-lime soda + ice. Garnish with lemon slices and cucumber slices. Throw in a straw and sit back and pretend you too are at the All England Club! If you don’t drink alcohol or are under age, there are some delicious recipes for non-alcoholic versions too on Pinterest — yum!

It wouldn’t be Wimbledon without strawberries and cream! You can make these however you want, but at the All England Club, you literally pick out your bowl of strawberries and pour the cream over them to enjoy! But I say, do your own variation! Whip up some lemon rosemary whipped cream to top your strawberries or even create a strawberry shortcake — trust me, you can’t go wrong!

I love doing appetizers when it comes to parties — so have some fun creating tea sandwiches or key in on some UK flavor and create a chip bar! Whether you go with “chips” or “crisps” have fun and play around with some toppings!

I’d love to see your pictures of how you will be enjoying the Wimbledon finals! Hashtag #TWWimbledon2014 and share your Wimby pictures with us! Let us know who you will be cheering to win it all at the All England Club this year (Go Petra)!

Play with heart,

Michelle
