We have another new playtester here with us at Tennis Warehouse, Marco Comuzzo. Marco follows in the footsteps of previous Cal Poly tennis team alumni Andy and Brittany and joins the Web Editing department as an Assistant Web Editor. He helps create web content for our sister company, Tennis Only, down in Perth, Australia. Marco hails from New Zealand and grew up playing junior tennis down there before heading to California for college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

When/Why did you start playing tennis?
I was 5 years old. There were courts nearby our house and my dad and older brother always used to go play so I joined in.
Who inspires you to play tennis?
All the opponents who have beaten me! Each time I have a loss it always inspires me to work harder and improve on my mistakes.
What is your favorite shot to hit and why?
It is a tough choice between my forehand down the line and my serve but if I had to pick one I would choose my serve. I love the feeling of coming up with a big serve during a high pressure situation.
What racquets have you used (not tested) during your tennis career?
Wilson nCode nTour 95, Head MicroGEL and Flexpoint Radical MP, Prince EXO3 Ignite 95, Tecnfibre TFight 305 VO2 Max and the Babolat Pure Drive Plus.
If you could compare your game style to a pro’s (past or present), who would it be and why?
Fernando Verdasco. I like to open up the court with a lot of forehands crosscourt and look for the opportunity to attack, similarly to Verdasco.
What has been your favorite match you have ever watched (live or on TV)?
Andre Agassi vs Marcos Baghdatis US Open 2006. Agassi is my favorite player and it was the last tournament of his career and the last win of his career, winning the match 7-5 in the fifth.
Do you have any superstitions before playing a match?
I used to wear the same T-shirt and shorts for the first day of a tournament when I was younger, until I grew out of it…
Do you have pre-match meals you like to eat before a tournament?
Spaghetti Bolognese, and lots of it!
What is the funniest thing that has ever happened while you were playing tennis?
I was playing a point and simultaneously sneezed and hit a winner.
Have you had any injuries? For how long? How did you deal with them?
When I was younger I had tennis elbow, it stayed with me when I was 11-13 years old. Along with acupuncture, I went to a lighter racquet and also dropped my tension.
What is your favorite part of being a TW playtester?
Being able to try out all the different racquets/brands and find the similarities and differences between them.
Do you have any nicknames from the TW playtest squad?
So far, kiwi and Marcoco- a combination of my first and last name.
Thanks for tuning in to this edition of Meet the Playtesters.
