Keeping Up with the Playtesters!

Welcome to the first installment of Keeping Up with the Playtesters!

Everything you ever wanted to know (and more) from our team of playtesters at Tennis Warehouse. Feel free to email in any questions (feedbacktw@tennis-warehouse.com) you have and want answered, whether it be about equipment, apparel, court rituals, tennis, etc.!

So let’s get to it!

Question: What is your favorite pump-up/pre-match song?

Chris: “My taste is too varied to have one song, but it would be something relaxing as I tend to enter matches very pumped up and so it is better for me to try and chill out before I play rather than getting even more pumped up.”

Mark: “There are not too many varieties of music that I do not appreciate, but my pre-match favorites are more along the lines of something upbeat, like Kruder & Dorfmeister, Jurassic 5, or Morcheeba. Claude Debussy is not out of the question either.”

Granville: “Pump It Up (Elvis Costello), Psycho Killer or Burning Down the House (Talking Heads) and Mozart’s Requiem Mass. Why you ask? Set ‘em up and Knock ‘em down.”

Brittany: “All I Do is Win by DJ Khaled. I believe the title says it all but I like the upbeat tempo to get my energy up.”

Andy: “Uprising by Muse…um, have you heard it?? It’s epic!”

Tiffani: “I don’t really have one. Possibly it’s Motorhead Ace of Spades because it’s the song my husband likes to listen to before riding down the mountain on our bikes, so I’ve learned to like that one. Or perhaps DJ Kahled All I Do is Win because the hands go up, and they stay there!”

Jason: “Till I Collapse by Eminem. Listen to it and tell me you don’t wanna just rage on the tennis court! On to the Next One by Jay Z. Or rather, on to the next round!”

Karly: “Easy. Rod Stewart’s Do Ya Think I’m Sexy. That, or The Final Countdown by Europe.”

Spencer: “This is not such a simple question, as the human mind and emotional reactions to music at certain times can be a complex matter. Before a match, and depending on who I am playing, I may be seeking different things at different times to get inspired, thus I had a difficult time trying to narrow down just exactly what motivates me musically. That said, I know I am listening to the right song when I feel my body starting to buzz within. Here are some that tend to work for me: For pure heart thumping adrenaline, I’ve found pretty much the whole Kill ‘Em All album by Metallica to work. For strictly a beat without words, I like Diablo Rojo by Rodrigo y Gabriela, as well as Blue Monday by New Order. One more for the words than anything else is Get It On by Kingdom Come. And, just some others that resonate just because: My Love by Justin Timberlake, Raising Hell by Run DMC, Fly Away by Lenny Kravitz, and Virtual Insanity by Jamiroquai.”

Troy: “Hail Mary by Tupac Shakur. Something about this song automatically raises my heart rate. It’s as if this song pumps through my veins when i hear it!”

and mine: “My pre-match playlist is an eclectic mix of classic rock (think Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac and Van Halen), to euro pop/techno (David Guetta, Sash!, etc.), to my favorite songs of the moment (which right now would be The Postal Sevice, Passion Pit, Roots Rock Remixed by Bob Marley and Ozomatli).”

That’s it for now, be sure to keep an eye out for the next Keeping Up with the Playtesters and send me an email (feedbacktw@tennis-warehouse.com) on what you want to know about our playtesters!

Play with heart,

Michelle, TW
