At the Open with Kveta Peshcke

Kveta (at right) is pictured here with her doubles partner Julia Goerges

Hello from NY!

I just got back from the courts after a successful day. My partner is Julia Goerges and we played well today. We beat Date Krumm/Wozniak 6-1 6-3, so it’s very promising for tomorrow! We play 2nd round at 11am against Voracova/Zakopalova.

Kveta gets her day started the right way, with some coffee!

Today I started the day with a coffee as usual for a good mood and then I always say “nothing can go wrong!” : )

By the way, our first win in mixed doubles yesterday with Marcin was lots of fun and great experience I can use in my doubles as well. We will probably play the 2nd round on Saturday.

Now I’m finally back relaxing in the hotel room with a healthy Caesar chicken salad for dinner. I have to be in the car at 7:45 a.m. and hit the road to the site again, so I have to keep it a bit shorter today!! Hope you like the photos! : )

Kveta arrives through the player's entrance at the US Open.

Have a good night!

Venus goes high style in the Big Apple

Venus Williams will be back in action today at Flushing Meadows. In the first round she took out fellow American Bethanie Mattek Sands in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Tonight she faces a formidable opponent in Angelique Kerber, who has rocketed in the rankings this year and is the sixth seed at the US Open. They’re scheduled to be tonight’s second match on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

What she’ll choose to wear tonight is a mystery. Unlike her peers, she has her own brand, giving her plenty of options when it comes to outfits. Check out the latest entire line here at Tennis Warehouse.

For her first round match against Mattek Sands, Venus chose to wear one of her EleVen dresses. The Fall Rose Garden Dress is a modern floral print. The pink roses keep it girly but the black and grey accents give it a modern edge. The dress is full coverage on the back and has an elegant silhouette that Venus wears well.

She entrusts her footwork in the Nike Zoom Breathe 2K11 in a neutral White/Grey colorway. The 2K11is a great mix of lightweight, comfort and support. What’s even better? This shoe is from last season so is on sale! She’s wearing some no-show socks that we can’t see. If you like the no-show sock look, you can have your pick of brands and colors form our wide selection.

In her hands, Venus chooses to swing the Wilson BLX Blade Team. The Blade Team offers comfort, power and easy spin from its generous sweet spot. Looking for just a little extra reach? Check this one out. At 27.25″ there’s a little extra leverage and reach, but it doesn’t take a huge adjustment period if you’re used to playing with standard length racquets (27″).

When they walk onto court tonight, the head to head series favors Kerber. She’s won both match-ups this year, but their only hard court match went to Venus in 2009. Whatever, the result we’re sure to see some great tennis and some great tennis fashion!

Happy Hitting,

What’s Roddick wearing to the party in NYC?

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday, dear Andy….. Yup, Mr. Roddick turns the big three-O today. The US Open gave him a birthday gift of having the day off. The schedule of play isn’t out yet for Friday, but I would guess he will play tomorrow. He faces Bernard Tomic in the second round.

Let’s take a quick look at what the birthday boy wore in his first round match against Rhyne Williams, the 21-year-old American making his US Open debut.

He’s sporting a classic tennis look by Lacoste. Andy has a signature line with Lacoste, so of course he’s wearing some items from that collection. His polo is the Roddick Stripe Polo. It has a pinstripe on the body with horizontal stripes across the chest. In red, navy and white, it’s classic and quite patriotic, which handily tie in with those shoes — we’ll get to those in a minute. The two-button placket is a nice change up. It’s neat and tidy. Don’t miss the Andy Roddick signature logo on the right hem. The Lacoste Stretch Fly Short in white finishes this classy outfit. If Andy gets scheduled for a night match, will we see him in the Roddick Check Polo or Johnny Collar Polo? He could also go for the Stripe Polo in blue with the navy short. Andy is always seen in a hat, too. His specific hat isn’t available currently, but there are plenty of Lacoste hat options to be found. Check out the rest of the Fall Lacoste line here.

As long as I can remember Andy has worn ASO ankle braces. If you’re also in need of extra ankle support, check out the ASO braces. With stabilizing straps and a lace-up boot, this is one of the most supportive braces available.

Now on to those patriotic shoes. They’re hard to miss. The Babolat Propulse 3 Stars & Stripes made their debut as Andy’s Olympic shoes. This special colorway of the Propulse 3 does its best to steal the show. This shoe screams US pride, perfect for the only Grand Slam on US soil. But it’s not all about looks. The Propulse 3 is one of the most supportive, performance-oriented shoes out there. Heel straps, forefoot straps, durability guarantee… the shoe is built to please the competitive player who doesn’t mind to show off a bit of flair.

What’s next? His racquet, of course. And it needs no introduction. The Babolat Pure Drive Roddick Plus is well known for the screaming power it can deliver. Any doubts? Have you seen Andy serve? It’s not exactly what anyone would call a powder puff. For a limited time, this racquet comes with a free set of Addiction or Hurricane Feel strings with purchase.

Let’s all send Andy a big happy birthday!

Happy hitting!
